2015 and 2016 Chevy Silverado HD & GMC Sierra HD Duramax Diesel Air Intake Upgrade from K&N
- 2 Mar 2015
Chevy’s popular Silverado 1500 line of pickups, and the identical Sierra 1500 line from GMC, received a complete makeover for the 2014 model year. 2014 Silverado and Sierra 1500 ½ ton trucks were the first to receive a makeover from General Motors and GM’s Heavy Duty 2500HD and 3500 models, as well as Tahoe, Suburban, and Escalade models, received updates for the 2015 model year. The Chevy Silverado 2500HD/3500 and Sierra 2500 HD/3500 have been a work in progress since the Silverado HD / Sierra HD line’s inception in 2000. Significant changes were made to the 2015 Silverado and Sierra HD models to improve interior comfort as well as improving ride quality. One important feature of the Silverado and Sierra 2500HD/3500 carried over from 2014 is the now legendary 6.6-liter Duramax Diesel V8 engine.
2015 and 2016 Duramax 6.6L Diesel powered Silverado and Sierra trucks are rated at just less than 400 horsepower but where the Duramax shines is in torque output. This 6.6L turbo diesel Duramax engine is rated at an incredible 765 lb-ft of torque. Diesel pickup owners are obsessed with torque and cannot seem to get enough. 2015 and 2016 Duramax owners can rely on K&N for an easy diesel air intake upgrade 63-3087 that will provide a guaranteed boost in both horsepower and torque. Duramax owners can trust K&N to protect their engine with specially made K&N diesel air filters. Because a diesel engine operates under much higher levels of compression and airflow, K&N diesel air filters are designed with features that go above and beyond standard K&N air filters. K&N diesel air intake 63-3087 includes K&N diesel air filter RC-5179. K&N diesel air filter RC-5179 was tested following the internationally recognized ISO 5011 protocol with ISO coarse test dust and has an overall filtration efficiency of 99.49%.
The combination of the highly engineered rotationally molded high-density polyethylene (HDPE) air intake tube, K&N high-flow oversized conical diesel air filter, and application specific heat shield used in the 2015-2016 Silverado 2500 HD / 3500 and Sierra 2500HD / 3500 diesel air intake system results in massive power gains for the 6.6L Duramax turbo diesel. After establishing base line horsepower numbers of a 2015 and 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.6L diesel in stock trim, a 2015-2016 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.6L diesel was dyno tested with K&N diesel air intake 63-3087 on K&N’s in-house dynamometer. Horsepower and torque gains were observed across the entire RPM range, with the max estimated gain of 24.09 horsepower occurring at 2,950 RPM and the estimated peak torque gain of 29.62 lb-ft taking place at 2,850 RPM. 2015 and 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD / 3500 and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD / 3500 owners can count on K&N to provide a bolt on diesel performance upgrade without worrying about their engine. Significant testing goes into developing a K&N air intake system, both in the real world and laboratory environments, giving K&N the confidence to back its performance air intake systems with a 10-year/million mile limited warranty. To further put K&N users at ease K&N offers an Engine Protection Limited Warranty even going so far as to warrant that using our product will not result in a vehicle warranty denial. K&N 2015 and 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD / 3500 6.6L Duramax and GMC Sierra 2500HD / 3500 6.6L Duramax diesel air intake 63-3087 will provide an easy to install guaranteed increase in horsepower for the following Duramax pickups:
