A Teen is Coming into His Own Against the Big Boys of the Sprint Car World
- 28 May 2009
Kenny Allen is only 14-years-old but he’s been racing since he was in kindergarten. The Chico, California resident got the racing bug the first time his father took him to the track. The next you know, he was racing Outlaw Karts in the Box Stock Division.
He moved on to Mini Sprint racing action and now Allen is into 350/410 Winged Sprint Cars. Allen has several “Rookie of the Year Awards” and earned a 2008 championship in a 500cc Outlaw Kart. With over 84 starts, Allen has achieved 82 top 20 finishes, 34 top five finishes, 29 heat race wins, 6 trophy dash wins and set the fast time 21 times.
California teen will next compete in the Civil War Sprint Series at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California
He is only a week or so away from his 8th grade graduation, does not have a driver’s license, but competes against some of the biggest names in Sprint car action. Allen also uses K&N products.
“I know from being around the track that K&N makes great products,” said Allen. “I’ve seen K&N commercials on television and read about K&N in magazines. I also went on the Intranet and looked up information on KNFilters.com. We needed a sprint car air box and I asked my mom to contact K&N. The next thing you know we were hooked up and my sprint car is running better.”
Allen took the checkered flag after from his first heat race in the 2009 Placerville Speedway 360 Points Series. “I’m more excited about winning that race than graduating 8th grade,” he said. “I’m also the youngest racer to do well in the Civil War Series.”
Allen hopes to go to the King of California Series, then to the World of Outlaws. He eventually wants to be a NASCAR driver. His next race will be in the 2009 Civil War Sprint Series on May 24 at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California.
