When your family tradition is racing and winning, a couple of months between checkered flags can seem like an eternity according to Bobby Santos III. Santos started off 2011 with a season-opening victory at Anderson Speedway. The last time the USAC Pavement Sprint Car Series ran at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis back in May, Santos collected a solid fourth-place. This time around Santos wheeled his family-owned No. 98 Santos Motorsports Sprint car to his second victory of the 2011 season. The win extended his points lead over the competition in the AMSOIL USAC Pavement Sprint Car Series standings.

"It was a good day," said the K&N sponsored driver. "The car was good right away in practice. We qualified well but had to start sixth. We got up to second really fast. The first lap after the yellow, we got the leader, and then we led from there. It was a good run and a good day to finally win a race. It was exciting to get a win for my dad. It feels like it has been forever since I have won anything. It's been two years since my last win at LOR, and it is one of my favorite tracks. I have had a lot of good runs there in the past so wanted to win there again."

After the LOR event Santos competed at Bristol Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event.

"Bristol was a lot of fun," Santos told K&N Race News, "I love racing there. We got the pole, and we were looking good at the beginning of the race, but it ended short for us with a broken rocker. We have been doing okay in the modified series, the car has been really fast and running well, but a lot of bad luck is ending our good runs short. We just aren't getting the finishes we deserve."

For 2011 Santos decided to run both the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and USAC National Pavement Sprint Car full-time, we ask him if that decision helped this year, and would he consider it again for 2012.

"Yes, I love racing both and its good experience. Hopefully, if all works out, we can do the same next year. We still have two more sprint car races left this season. Then Turkey Night, which is one of my favorite races with the midget. And with the modified we have three more races to go."
