Chevrolet HHR 2.4L Gets 9 More HP & Flies with New K&N Performance Air Intake
- 18 Aug 2006
The 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 Chevrolet HHR, which stands for Heritage High Roof has a distinctive
silhouette and a design that is similar to the 1949 Chevy Suburban. The
crossover vehicle has front-wheel drive with roots that lie deep in Chevrolet
history.
K&N Engineering, Inc. has made a 63 Series AirCharger Intake Kit (63-3056) for the 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 Chevrolet HHR 2.4L L4. "It's the first time K&N has used an airbox in an intake kit," said Bert Heck, K&N Performance Kit Manger. "Designed for maximum air flow the unique airbox keeps the engine heat away from the open element air filter and provides a cooler air charge."
K&N tests have shown a horsepower gain of 9.33 @ 5325 RPM with the K&N (63-3056) Intake Kit. K&N Engineers were able to get such good horsepower because the original factory airbox and original filter were restrictive. The K&N Intake Tube design along with our K&N Filter with radius adaptor are big reasons why K&N was able to get so much power.
Bill Ferrell, an Upland, California resident bought a new HHR. He allowed K&N's Research and Development Engineers to use his Chevy as a prototype for the 63 Series AirCharger Intake Kit (63-3056). K&N Engineering has a vehicle loan program. "It works this way," said Heck. "A vehicle owner agrees to let us do testing on their vehicle. After K&N develops an intake, we give the owner a free kit for the use of the vehicle. In this case the MSRP of the intake is 399.00." For more information about loaning your vehicle for air intake development see the Vehicles Needed page.
"The HHR is a 4 cylinder, and when I bought it the car did not have a lot of pizzazz," said Ferrell. "Now that my HHR has the K&N AirCharger Intake Kit it has a lot of pizzazz. I can feel the power. It really is the difference between night and day."
K&N 63 Series Air Intake Kits use a round tapered universal Air Filter (RC-5149) that can fit into the engine compartment using factory holes and mounting points. It takes less than an hour to install this kit and the lifetime K&N Air Filter performs for up to 100,000 miles before service is required depending on driving conditions.
