Chris Eggleston Snatches Victory Away From James Bickford Late in NASCAR Shasta 150

David Mayhew won the 21 Means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Lite for being the fast qualifier and led the first 92 laps at Shasta Speedway before suffering mechanical issues

NASCAR K&N Pro Series West veteran David Mayhew had a great beginning in the Bill Schmitt Memorial 150 at Shasta Speedway in Anderson, California. Mayhew was the fastest qualifier on the 3/8 mile oval with a lap time of 15.873 seconds at 85.050 miles per hour. Mayhew won the 21 Means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Lite for being the fast qualifier and would go on to lead the first 92 laps at Shasta Speedway. Unfortunately David Mayhew was forced to pull off the track with mechanical issues on lap 92 and James Bickford, the 2014 Sunoco Rookie of the Year, inherited the lead.

As the race wound down it seemed as if James Bickford was set to pick up his second NASCAR K&N Pro Series West win. However, Chris Eggleston patiently waited and tracked down Bickford making a late pass with 5 laps to go and captured the win. Eggleston wound up .705 seconds ahead of Bickford at the finish line and more than four seconds over the rest of the field on the .375-mile track. “I thought we were going to have to settle for second,” said Eggleston. “But I never quit. I just kept digging it with all we could. The 6 car started to slip just a little bit and it was just enough to get a run on him.”

With his win, Chris Eggleston took over the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West championship points lead by 12 over Gracin Raz and 15 over Noah Gragson

This was Eggleston’s third win in nine career NASCAR K&N Pro Series West starts for the 26-year-old from Erie, Colorado. He is running his first full-time season for Bill McAnally Racing. Eggleston won earlier this year at California's Irwindale Speedway. Behind James Bickford Johnny White finished third and Gracin Raz was fourth. Buddy Shepherd, 15, was fifth in his first career series start.

With his win, Chris Eggleston took over the K&N West Series championship points lead by 12 over Gracin Raz and 15 over Noah Gragson. Gragson entered the event with the points lead but ended up 16th after suffering a flat tire, while Mayhew wound up 20th. Ryan Partridge is now fourth in points and James Bickford is fifth. The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West next races on June 27 in the Carneros 200 at California's Sonoma Raceway.
