Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa puts Donny Schatz and his Sprint Car in Victory Lane
- 13 Sept 2007
Defending World of Outlaws champion and current points leader Donny Schatz put
on a dominant performance at Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa. “Winning
races is what we try to do every night,” said Schatz. “It feels good to be back
in victory lane again.”
The Fargo, North Dakota resident took the checkered flag 3.93 seconds ahead of runner-up Joey Saldana. “For most of the year we were on the podium nearly every night,” said Schatz, who has 41 top 5 finishes in 64 World of Outlaw starts in 2007. “This is the kind of night we’re shooting for from here on out. We qualified decent, got in the dash and kept getting the car better.”
Schatz qualified fifth in his Global ParkerStore sponsored No. 15 with K&N products on the newly configured 3/8 mile dirt oval. In the first heat race Schatz made a strong surge in the field of 32 cars. He started third, but had to pass fast qualifier Jason Solwold to earn his spot in the Crane Cams Dash. The Pakerstore Team drew the seventh starting position in the six-lap race, which set the first ten spots in the 30-lap feature.
Schatz avoided disaster early in the dash and earned the outside third row starting position. In the feature he worked his way forward and jumped into fourth on the opening lap.
He quickly began chasing leaders Tim Shaffer and Saldana. As the two leaders entered thick traffic, Schatz waited for the perfect moment to take advantage of the situation. On lap 11 the leaders went three wide and Schatz took the lead. He led lap 12 and paced the field during the final 18 laps to collect his 66th career A-Feature World of Outlaws win.
Schatz and the ParkerStore Team use K&N Engineering products. “Our race team does extensive research and works closely with our product suppliers,” said Schatz. “We’ve seen the results of the K&N performance both on the track and in our research and development. We’ve had the complete car on a chassis dynamometer and seen results from the engine dynamometer. The K&N Filters Carbon Sprint Airbox is simply the best product out there for us. It fits perfectly and provides the most airflow to the engine.”
Schatz and the ParkerStore Team will continue their swing in the Midwest with a race at Heartland Raceway Park in Topeka, Kansas on Friday night.
