Daytona 500 Sprint Cup Series Champion Penske Car Equipped with K&N Air Filter

On lap 198, the 18 car driven by Kyle Busch got in line behind the 20 driven by Stewart. Kurt Bush, Ryan Newman’s teammate got behind Newman in the draft and helped pushed Newman to the win. Stewart took a third place finish and Kyle Bush came in fourth despite leading 86 laps throughout the race. Kurt Busch took the runner-up position.
This was the first time a Penske car won Daytona and finished 1-2 in a Cup race. Roger Penske now has a Daytona 500 win to go with his 14 victories in the Indianapolis 500. “Winning the Daytona 500 is a special victory for Penske Racing and the No. 12 Alltel Dodge team,” said Penske. “We could not have achieved such a win without the assistance from our sponsors including K&N air filters.”
K&N Engineering has been supplying Penske Racing with product on and off for years. “The past two years we have formed a mutually beneficial marketing and product development effort,” said K&N Sports Marketing Director Charles Maier. “We would like to think that the race finished 1-2 for Team Penske due to our product and that it made the difference. In reality Penske Racing has made several changes and the results are coming to Victory Lane. K&N is glad to be part of the progress.”
Newman broke an 81-race drought dating back to 2005 with this race. The Penske team will be back this weekend for round two of the Sprint Cup Series at California Speedway in Fontana, California.
