Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country Van Gets K&N Cabin Air Filter
- 5 May 2016
Three of the most recognizable names in ground transport on every continent are Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan, and Ram Cargo Van. If you've hailed an airport shuttle or been ferried to the fair with your family, it is likely you've made that transit in one of these standards of the industry. Since pioneering minivan design and production in the U.S., Chrysler has consistently worked to fine tune amenities and reinforce the workability of these vehicles. The carmaker has consistently placed an emphasis on engineering, producing an impressive collection of safety, comfort, and practical innovations. The Town & Country and sibling Grand Caravan include a seat conversion system that fold completely into under-floor compartments and won a Popular Science magazine "Best of What's New" award; entertainment technology that streams satellite programming to multiple stations; convertible tables and swivel front seats; sound-deadening glass and floor coverings for a quiet cabin, and multi-zone air conditioning -- all available since 2005.
Situated between people-mover minivan and work hauler, the light-duty Ram Cargo Van has done yeoman duty as the tradesman on worksites and between marketplaces, with economy and maneuverability not available with full-size vans. Its radiator, transmission oil cooler, and steering is beefed up to cope with more demanding conditions, yet it benefits from its Caravan platform with standard air conditioning, remote keyless entry, power front windows, cloth seats, a flat load floor, and a two-speaker CD player/radio.
In 2008, the fifth-generation redesign and a new 4.0L V6 engine put these vehicles back into direct competition with Japanese iterations that began to dominate the market. A 2012 refresh featured the new Pentastar V6 power plant, electronic stability control, and a majorly re-tuned suspension with a larger front and added rear sway bar, increased rear roll center height, adjusted spring rates, and new steering gear. Surround-sound audio, leather seats, retractable sunshades, remote start, power-adjustable pedals, hands-free phone and three-zone automatic climate control were just a short list of optional or available features. Who would want to travel in anything other than a Town & Country or Grand Caravan? The Ram Cargo Van was retired with the 2015 model year, so those planning to keep and continue working with their C/Vs will be paying extra attention to maintenance. Town & Country and Grand Caravan owners will still have lots of manufacturer support, but they also know that the key to keeping the quality of life topped up inside those comfy interiors is fresh, unrestricted air flow. The way to get it is with a clean cabin air filter. Not only will passengers get good air, the climate control systems will be protected and can function properly. Owners have the stock filter and 17 different replacements to choose from, but just one choice if they never want to replace the cabin air filter again: K&N. The K&N VF2038 replacement cabin air filter is the first of its kind that can be washed, electrostatically recharged and reused -- for years to come. K&N replacement cabin air filters are constructed with a polyurethane frame holding a special high-flow synthetic material. The filter media traps not only dust and dirt, it helps slow down the entry of mold, spores, mildew, even bacteria. Its surface area is larger than stock filters and can take in greater quantities of air while keeping most pollutants out. In 2008-2015 Town & Countries, Grand Caravans, and Ram Cargo Vans, the filter is easily accessed from behind the glove compartment. No tools are needed to release the compartment, open the filter housing cover, remove the old filter and clean out the space. The K&N VF2038 goes in just one way, ensuring that the intake side of the filter is facing the correct direction. Service intervals of 12,000 miles or once per year are recommended, but the filter can be cleaned more frequently if desired. It will last the life of the car, but carries a 10-Year/Million Mile Limited Warranty just in case. When shopping for the correct cabin air filter for the Town & Country, Grand Caravan, and Cargo Van, use the K&N application search, to confirm the model, then visit the online K&N dealer search to make your purchase at the K&N dealer closest to you.
