Greg Pursley Wins NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Race at Spokane County Raceway
- 9 Sept 2013
Pursley took the lead on lap 115 of the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Spokane County Raceway and won the race by a 2.259-second margin over Derek Thorn. It was Pursley's third win of the season and the 16th of his NASCAR K&N Pro Series West career. "We destroyed a car last week at Monroe, getting second - just totaled it," he said. "We brought this one as a backup. Everybody at Gene Price Motorsports rebounded and did an awesome job. I can't thank them enough." Greg Pursley, the 2011 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion, was the runner-up at the race at Evergreen Speedway on August 17. Dylan Lupton won the race, the first of his career. The race ended with a multi-car crash that damaged a number of cars contending for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West championship.
Pursley wasn't able to make much of a dent in the championship standings with the win at Spokane County Raceway. Thorn leads the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West standings by 23 points over Cameron Hayley. Pursley is in fourth place in the West Series standings, 31 points behind Thorn. "I think we lost a point to Hayley in the championship deal," Thorn said. "But all in all it was a good points night for us and we'll try to capitalize on it in the next one." Hayley won the pole and was third in the race. He led 31 laps, taking the top spot from Pursley on lap 6. Michael Self passed Hayley for the lead on lap 37 and was out front until lap 114. "It was a good run for our Cabinets by Hayley Ford Fusion," Hayley said. "I think we might have gained a point for the championship. That's a positive out of the day, but we took a gamble. We thought it was going to go green the whole way. We got a couple of cautions there. I just went too hard early, trying to get to the front so that if it did go green, we'd be there. But the yellows came out and we just didn't have enough there at the end. Overall it was a good run, but we'll learn from this." Self led a race-high 78 laps, but fell back at the end after the fourth caution period on lap 105. Greg Pursley passed Self for the lead on lap 115 and pulled away over the last 35 laps at the Spokane County Raceway. "We gotta thank K&N for sponsoring our series and especially the fans in Spokane for coming out and seeing us here," Pursley said. Pursley joined Self and Thorn as the only three-time winners in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West this year. Lupton is the only other driver to win a NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race in 2013. Giles Thornton, a 15-year-old rookie, was fourth. Patrick Staropoli, making his NASCAR K&N Pro Series West debut, was fifth. Waltrip was eighth in qualifying and finished 11th in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race at Spokane County Raceway. The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race is the iON Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports Park on September 14. |
