Harold Bubblebee Goodman 2x AMA Extreme Dirt Track Pro Nationals Champ Goes for More
- 14 Jan 2010
Harold Goodman, the Romulus, Michigan native, began racing in 1986 and turned professional in 1995, every year since then he's hovered near, or has been at the top of his profession. He won both the '07 and '08 AMA Extreme Dirt Track Pro Nationals, and was a member of the 2008 Baja 1000 Championship Team. In '08 he was voted the All Terrain Vehicle Association (ATVA) Athlete of the Year.
Last year Goodman went four-for-four in the Pro-Lites Class of the AMA/ATVA Extreme Dirt Track National ATV Series. He finished a wheel length short of accomplishing the same thing in the Pro Division. Goodman's racing style is both aggressive and methodological and it's captured not only the attention of fans but sponsors. Last year Goodman missed winning the third Dirt Track Championship by several points.
"In '09 everything was going to plan. Unfortunately, in the second to last round, I had some first lap bad luck that put me behind in the points. I was unable to win the last round, which was what I needed to win a third pro championship. I was happy with a second though. However, in the Pro-Lites Class, I won the first five rounds, securing a third championship in that class. The overall season was good for me," understates Goodman.

Asked about the nickname the "Bumblebee," Goodman says, "that came about around 1986 or 87. I was just starting to get faster on my KX 60 modified four-wheeler. I was having a hard time knowing when to shift. One of my competitors' fathers told me to make the bike sound like a bumblebee and then shift. With that little bit of instruction, I improved my shifting points and got a lot faster. After that he started calling me the Bumblebee and the name stuck."
"I use K&N filters on all my bikes. They provide the best power and filtration. Of course I use the filter cleaner and oil all of the time too. I have also put a K&N intake system on my V10 Excursion, and it improved the power and gas mileage."
This next season Goodman will race in all of the AMA Pro ATV Nationals, as well as all the Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC) events. "This will be my first year competing in the GNCC races and I look forward to it," say Goodman. "I will also go to a few EDT Nationals, but will not be doing the whole series." Not this time anyway.
