K&N Drycharger Wrap Give Hot Rod & Rat Rod Owners an Extra Level of Protection
- 6 Jan 2016
Over the last few years the traditional Hot Rod Model-T Ford, or the classic 1932 Ford "Deuce Coupe" has found itself displaced in certain crowds by the increasingly popular "Rat Rod". The Rat Rod is a counter-cultural movement to the high-priced custom Rods that have become little more than a rich man's trophy piece. The Rat Rod movement was born out of cars being built according to the owner's abilities, budget, and of course with the intention of actually being driven. The biker, greaser, rockabilly, psychobilly, and punk sub-cultures are often credited with influencing rat rodding. This doesn't mean, however, that a Rat Rod is little more than a bunch of junk parts thrown together. No, in fact, a Rat Rod is typically an over the top reinterpretation of late 1940's to early 1950's hot rodding style that includes cultural elements of music, clothing, hairstyles, and tattoos. Loud, low, chopped, giant rear tires, multiple carburetors and open pipes should all be part of a well-executed Rat Rod build. As a manufacturer of performance air filters and air cleaner assemblies it always pains K&N Filters to see these cars running multiple carburetors with little to nothing keeping engine damaging debris out of the carbs.
For Rat Rodders or even Hot Rodders Looking for an air cleaner assembly with a bit more flair and period-correct aesthetics, look no further than K&N Nostalgia Air Cleaner assemblies. These air cleaner assemblies, available in a round open, or louvered bonnet style, fit nearly all early model carburetors with a 2-3/16" or 2-5/8" flange diameter. These assemblies are 4" in diameter and measure 3" from base to the top of the wing nut.
Both style K&N Nostalgia Air Cleaner assemblies include a high-flow washable K&N air filter, number E-3120, to ensure that performance won't come second to style. While K&N Nostalgia Air Cleaner assemblies and the included high-flow K&N air filter will protect the engine from dust and debris, there is still a chance of exposing the carburetor(s) to water when used in an open engine compartment. Because they aren’t normally used as a daily driver, the chances of getting caught in the rain in a rat rod or hot rod are probably pretty slim. Most people wouldn’t take their hot rod out in the rain, but there could always be the unexpected rain storm that rolls through on the way to, during, or even home from a car show. So with that in mind K&N offers a Drycharger pre-filter wrap, number E-3120DK, which will work with K&N Nostalgia Air Cleaner assemblies 60-0400 / 60-0403 and 60-0500 / 60-0503. A K&N Drycharger air filter wrap is pre-treated with a proprietary hydrophobic process designed to prevent splashes of water or mud from saturating a K&N air filter. A K&N Drycharger will provide an extra barrier of protection for K&N air filters, yet add minimal airflow restriction. Depending on conditions, and usage, the water repellent treatment for a K&N Drycharger is good for 1 to 2 years. K&N Drycharger air filter pre-filter wraps are custom made to fit specific K&N air filters for an excellent fit. K&N Drycharger air filter wraps are meant to be run dry and can be cleaned with K&N Power Kleen air filter cleaner. K&N Drycharger pre-filter wraps are available wherever K&N performance filters are sold. Find an authorized K&N dealer nearby using the K&N Dealer Search. Or, buy a K&N Drycharger directly from K&N at KNFilters.com. |
