K&N Filters Ford No. 28 Fastest Ford at Daytona 500 in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
- 11 Feb 2008
Travis Kvapil of Yates Racing qualified seventh-fastest on Sunday at Daytona
International Speedway, with a bold move that locked him into the NASCAR Sprint
Cup Series at the Daytona 500.
The K&N Engineering sponsored racer earned best-in-class honors. Kvapil also drove the fastest in the K&N Filters No. 28 during time trials at Daytona. “I was on the edge of my seat when Travis beat out nine other Fords and qualified with the fastest Ford at Daytona,” said Charles Maier, sports marketing director of K&N Engineering. “The memories of something very good happening from last year’s Daytona Truck race and our new campaign in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series are coming back.”
K&N was the primary sponsor of Kvapil’s No. 6 Ford in the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In that series, Kvapil had four wins and secured 12 top-ten finishes. “We believe that there is a special chemistry with K&N and Travis,” said Maier. “When you look good you typically feel good and consequently perform well. The car looks great and he makes it look so easy.”
The season opener for Kvapil will be the 50th running of the Daytona 500 on February 17, 2008. “K&N is starting its second season with Travis,” said Maier. “Here we are one year later as Travis begins the 2008 Cup season with Yates Racing. We will remain on the edge of our seats here at K&N while Travis begins the Twins on Thursday in the top 10.”
