Five new world speed records were set by Falkner Livingston Racing and one of the team rider’s was inducted into the Bonneville 200 mph club. Paul Thede ran a Spider Grips equipped Race Tech-FL Racing Honda CBR 600RR in the 650cc class. Thede went up against some long standing records set by legends of the salt, including a record set by Don Vesco in 1975.
Rider Dusty Schaller ran a Spider Grips equipped DynoJet FL racing Honda CBR 600RR on the first 600cc motorcycle to put a rider in the 200 mph Club at Bonneville. “It took a lot of effort for a 600cc motorcycle to achieve over 200 mph,” said Schallar. “But the K&N air and oil filters on the bike were a key part of finding that power.”
There is a lot of history behind the speed runs and the FL Team motorcycles. “Our turbo charged motorcycle was rebuilt in 2007 and 2008 and we planned to run it at Speed Week 2008,” said Team Manger Becca Livingston. “But, the motorcycle was stolen just days before the event. After several months and many phone calls to the Las Vegas police department, the bike was recovered but it was badly mistreated.” Crew Chief Chris Geiter and rider Schaller rebuilt the bike again. It proved to be faster than ever on the natural race course along I-80 in Utah near the Nevada border.
The Race Tech FL Honda CBR 600RR was built by Lenny Albin and ridden by Paul Thede. Thede and Crew Chief Shaun Higginbottom had a very successful week. “In head to head racing Paul set a new record in the 650cc MPS/F class,” said Livingston. “Later in the week Paul also set a new record in the 650cc MPS/G record which had been standing since speed racing legend Don Vesco first set it in 1975.”
Thede also set a new M/G racing record on the same 2004 Honda motorcycle and returned to the MPS/F class where he reset the record to a higher speed.
Paul Thede’s Speed Week Results:
MPS/G Record set in 1975 of 171.324, new record of 175.023.
M/G Record set in 2004 of 157.556, new record of 162.026.
MSP/F Record set in 1985 of 168.129, new record of 175.828 currently bumped to 178.294.
Dusty Schaller’s Speed Week Results:
On the standing MPS/BF record of 170.032, Dusty set a new record of 206.000mph.
On the standing MPS/BG record of 153.191, Dusty set a new record of 187.608.
“K&N plays an important part in making our motorcycles run well,” said Livingston. “In order to break records we have to get as much air as possible into our engines and at the same time keep the debris away. That is why we rely on K&N air filters and oil filters.”
Bonneville Racing resumes October 7-10th and FL Racing will return to the Salts with a full force. Three K9 Suzuki Hayabusa bikes and two Suzuki GSRX 1000s will accompany the two team Hondas.
