When Chris Brandt returned to off road racing in 2006, he never imagined his privateer team, Premier Motorsports, would be competing for a championship so quickly. But with just five events remaining in the 2010 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, Brandt's career year has him poised to capture the Pro Lite Unlimited Championship.

Brandt's No. 82 Hart and Huntington Toyota sits second in points, just two behind leader Marty Hart, heading into this weekends event at Speedworld Off Road Park in Surprise, AZ. So far, Brandt has three victories in 2010. But the team has struggled to put a solid weekend together.

"So far we've had one good day of racing and one bad day of racing during the race weekend," said the native of Sioux City, Iowa. "The biggest hurdle we've had has been an issue with the oil system, but we think we have that covered now."

In 1999, Brandt made the jump from racing in local off road series' to the now defunct Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) series, where he beat out now off road legend Carl Renezeder for the 1999 Rookie of the Year award. Brandt tallied four wins, and finished third and second in points in his two year CORR career before retiring at the end of the 2000 season to focus on the family business.

In 2006, Brandt came back with a goal of developing his team into a championship contender, and this year, all of the pieces seem to be falling in line. Brandt feels like his team is poised to take the championship now that it has solved all of its mechanical problems.

"I feel really good about the rest of the season. Now that we got the oil system fixed, we can just go and focus on winning rounds and that will let the points take care of itself," Brandt added.

Brandt's team has used high performance K&N Filters all season long to keep his Goodwin Competition Engine's powered truck running at optimum performance levels despite the dirty nature of his sport.

"We use K&N oil and air filters. Using nothing but the best products from a company like K&N gives us the cutting edge technology needed to run up front with the bigger teams in the very competitive Pro Lite class."
