SCCA Pro Racing SIRIUS Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Cup Racer Takes Finale at Utah
- 24 Sept 2007
The final SCCA Pro Racing SIRIUS Satellite Radio MX-5 Cup race of season at Utah
gave Andrew Caddell of Graham, Washington his second win of the season and
second place in the overall championship.
The 20-year-old had a rough start and fell back to fifth place immediately. “I missed a shift on the start,” said Caddell. “It was a fight from there and I began picking off people one by one.”
On the lap eight restart Matt Cross became the new race leader, but Caddell was right behind him. Caddell managed to take over the lead and never looked back. He also set the Hawk Hot Lap of the race at 79.891 mph.
“I had a run on Matt and dove in,” said Caddell. “He was doing a good job keeping the track narrow, but I had to get by him. I knew I had the better car.”
Caddell has been racing for 11 years. He has always used K&N Engineering products. “I don’t ever remember racing without K&N,” he said. “I started with karts and K&N and now I’m winning with K&N. The air and oil filters give me a competitive edge.”
Caddell will next compete at Topeka, Kansas at the 2007 SCCA National Championship Runoffs.
