Steve Iacona’s Phoenix is a Custom Harley® that Honors a Hero
- 21 Jan 2017
“This bike was built as a tribute to a New York City fire fighter who we lost on 9/11,” says Steve Iacona. “This Sportster has a long history between the new owner and the NYC FDNY. With this build, his memory will live on.” Clearly, it’s fitting that this beautiful tribute bike was built in Iacona’s Brooklyn-based shop. Phoenix rode away with the top spot in the Modified Harley Class in J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Bike Show in New York. K&N is a sponsor of the Mod Harley Class, as well as two other classes at each stop of the Progressive International Motorcycle Show.
The moto-artists at Iacona Customs are known for building unique, one-off, and award winning bikes with basic hand tools. The Phoenix build is no exception. “The entire bike was hand built, so each part was either modified or handmade,” says Iacona. “Some of the main features are the front mounted oil tank with stainless lines instead of rubber hoses, custom made gas tank, front fairing assembly, and our original Iacona Custom Cycles tail section with integrated shock.” That ultra-narrow and highly stylized tail section is like none other in the custom bike world, and the front fairing with its offset headlight is a masterpiece.
Steve Iacona is no stranger to the winner’s podium of national motorcycle shows. “I started building cars out of my garage, and eventually transitioned into motorcycles,” says Iacona. “After building a few bikes, word of mouth spread. Today we have two 1st place United States Championship titles and one 2nd place World Championship title. Hopefully soon we will have our 3rd U.S. title!”
“Our next endeavor will be producing our own product line. The first product will be our custom ignition switch, which you can see on our latest builds,” Iacona continues. “We also wouldn’t mind building bikes for some famous celebrities.” K&N congratulates Iacona Customs on a spectacular and important build.
