Teen Sprint Car Racer in Victory Lane at Central Arizona Raceway
- 17 May 2007
In American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region action, 15-year-old Chad Boat
charged to victory lane in Saturday’s 25-lap feature at Central Arizona Raceway.
Boat started 5th in the feature but found the high groove early. By lap 5 he moved by former champion Josh Pelkey for third place. Boat then set his sights on Jeremy Sherman who was going for a record 5th straight win.
“He worked the side of the racetrack like a veteran,” said Chad Boat’s father Billy Boat. “Chad moved around and set his sights on leader Charles Davis. Chad and Davis battled side-by-side for two laps until Chad made the pass stick and eventually pulled away for the win.”
Chad Boat grew up with racing. His father Billy raced Indy cars and took his son to a race track for the first time when he was two weeks old. “I’ve used K&N Engineering Products for a long time,” said Billy Boat. “When Chad starting racing K&N made the air and oil filters we turned to. We are a racing family and we wouldn’t use any other filter.”
Chad Boat’s win was great for the family. “My cars are running really fast this year,” said the teen. “I eventually want to race professionally one day, but I’m leaning toward NASCAR.”
Next up for Chad Boat is a seven week trip to the bullrings of Indiana. The team has 22 races on the agenda for the next couple of weeks at various tracks.
