K&N Adds More Airflow and Performance to Your 2016-2017 Nissan Cummins Diesel

K&N air filters are manufactured from multiple layers of oiled cotton filter media

K&N replacement air filters provide outstanding levels of airflow and engine protection

The 5.0 liter V8 Cummins turbo diesel fitted to the Nissan Titan XD fits between the smaller and larger diesel engines in the pickup truck market. For example, Chevrolet has a 2.8 liter four cylinder diesel available in its Colorado and the Silverado is offered with a 6.6 liter V8 diesel.

As a clean-sheet-of-paper design, the Cummins 5.0 liter V8 turbo diesel brings together a compacted graphite iron (CGI) cylinder block (as used in NASCAR engines), forged steel crankshaft, and high-strength aluminum alloy heads.

The engine is also fitted with a two-stage turbocharger configured to operate efficiently at both low and high engine speeds. Coupled with high pressures fuel injection system driven by integrated electronic controls, the fuel system, along with turbo contributes to peak torque of 555 lb-ft and 310 horsepower.

If turbo diesel engines can’t get enough of one thing, it’s intake air. A greater volume of air is compressed by the turbo, to which the engine’s computer responds by adding incremental fuel. A fast, simple, and inexpensive way to increase the airflow into your Cummins engine Titan is the installation of a K&N replacement air filter, 33-5048. Installing a K&N filter provides an incremental increase of air flow to the engine up to 50%.

K&N air filters are direct replacements for OEM filters

Everything needed to install a K&N replacement air filter is included in the box

K&N air filters are manufactured from multiple layers of oiled cotton filter media, which accounts for their long service life. The major benefits are that oiled cotton allows for both increased air flow and excellent filtration characteristics. Many less-expensive filters are made from more restrictive paper media that can easily clog and actually limit the output potential of the engine.

K&N verifies the performance of each filter design through the company’s in-house efficiency testing laboratory, in compliance with ISO 5011 standards. This rigorous testing confirms that K&N filters provide a high volume of intake airflow without sacrificing engine longevity.

And once you’ve installed your K&N 33-5048 air filter you’ve eliminated the need to purchase and replace filters for the life of your diesel Titan. The only maintenance necessary is a quick DIY job. At intervals of 50,000 miles (depending on your driving conditions) simply use the K&N air filter cleaning kit to clean and refresh your air filter. Your one K&N air filter is designed to last the lifetime of your vehicle, which K&N guarantees will perform for up to 10 years or 1,000,000 miles without requiring replacement.

The 33-5048 replacement filter fits the following vehicles:

K&N Pro Series West Veteran Jack Sellers Dies at 72

Jack Sellers, NASCAR, K&N Pro Series West, John Krebs, Rich DeLong

NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driver Jack Sellers died at his home in Sacramento on Oct. 21. He was 72.

Jack Sellers spent 32 seasons racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. He never won a race and was not one of the top drivers in the series. But he was one of the biggest proponents of the series and loved being able to help young drivers realize their dreams. He died on Friday night (Oct. 21) at his ranch home in Sacramento. He was 72.

Sellers raced in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season finale at All American Speedway in Roseville, California, on Oct. 15. He started 19th and finished 14th. He was entered in four K&N Pro Series races in 2016.

John Krebs, who partnered with Sellers to run a three-car team in the K&N Pro Series West, said he and Sellers went on a hunting trip two weeks before the race at Roseville. The Wednesday before the race, Sellers decided he wanted to enter a car.

“We did have a car ready for him and we were there,” Krebs said. “He wanted to run.”

NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driver Jack Sellers finished 14th in his final race in Roseville, Ca.

Krebs said Sellers was “full of energy” after the race. The two had a meeting and were planning a race scheduled for the 2017 season. It was business as usual, a partnership that began with a handshake back in 1983.

“We were best friends,” Krebs said. “It worked out well.

“Not many relationships last that long on a handshake. His word was his bond.”

Sellers was a valuable asset at the race track for young drivers. He would loan his car to some drivers who didn’t have the resources or the connections to fund their own programs. NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driver Rich De Long III remembers when Sellers loaned him his car when he was starting out.

NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driver Jack Sellers entered a record 282 races over his career.

“We didn’t have the points,” De Long said. “Jack lent me his car. I always spent time talking with him. He was always friendly. He was a good guy.”

Krebs said Sellers was the unofficial originator of the NASCAR diversity program. He would find aspiring drivers and give them the opportunity to race before it became an official NASCAR program.

“He liked to be somewhat competitive,” Krebs said. “He liked to have people get a taste of it. There was no risk.

“Jack just gave people an opportunity to have a shot at it.”

NASCAR K&N Pro Series West driver Jack Sellers won the Sportsmanship Award in 2005.

Sellers made his debut in the NASCAR Winston West Grand National Division at Sonoma, when it was Sears Point Raceway, in April 1985. He competed in a record 282 West Series races over his career. He recorded 32 top-10 finishes.

He never finished higher than seventh place in any West Series race. The last time was at Evergreen Speedway in Washington in 2013. He finished in seventh place in five West Series races.

He was awarded the NASCAR Sportsmanship Award in 2005. He finished in the top 10 in the West Series standings in seven of eight seasons from 1987 to 1994. His last full season in the K&N Pro Series West was in 2014. He was ninth in the final K&N Pro Series West standings.

K&N DU-8015 Air Filter for the Ducati Scrambler Increases Intake Airflow

The K&N DU-8015 air filter

The K&N DU-8015 air filter is fully washable and reusable

Ducati sales numbers have reached several historical highs in the last few years. It’s no coincidence that the market resurgence of the venerable Italian marquee coincides with the unveiling of the Scrambler series. The Scrambler is the chameleon of the motorcycling world as the model comes in several different incarnations for various purposes and customers. No matter how it’s dressed, the Scrambler is a competent, affordable, and uniquely entertaining motorcycle.

To get the most out of the 803cc L-twin engine, Scrambler owners can now drop legendary K&N performance into the stock air box. The fuel injected Scrambler breathes through a 50mm throttle body that craves more O2. It’s no secret that Ducati twin cylinder models benefit markedly from a more free-flowing air supply and that’s exactly what the DU-8015 replacement filter is engineered to provide. The DU-8015 is specifically designed to facilitate an increased airflow, which is a key factor in elevated performance.

The direct replacement Ducati Scrambler filter adds airflow

The American made DU-8015 comes with K&N’s reassuring Million-Mile Limited Warranty. So what does that mean to you? It means that the DU-8015 is the last air filter that your Ducati will ever need. The washable and reusable filter will end the expensive and wasteful cycle of replacing single-use paper filters. The pleated media on the high flow filter provides a large filtration surface that extends service intervals. The K&N 99-5000 air filter cleaning kit makes that occasional cleaning and re-oiling process easy and convenient.

To keep the Ducati running clean, the DU-8015 features several layers of woven cotton gauze media that provide excellent filtration. The air filter cartridge is also carefully engineered to provide a tight and reliable seal so unfiltered air can’t make its way around the filter’s rubber frame. Clean air and lots of it; that’s what’s on the menu for your Ducati with the DU-8015.

Partridge wins K&N Pro Series West Finale at Roseville, Second in Series

Ryan Partridge wins NASCAR K&N Pro Series West at All American Speedway

Ryan Partridge wins the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season finale at All American Speedway

Ryan Partridge won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season finale at All American Speedway in Roseville, California, but it wasn’t enough to track down series champion Todd Gilliland.

Partridge won the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150, his third win of the season, and was second to Gilliland in the K&N Pro Series West standings. Partridge finished 13 points behind Gilliland, who was eighth in the K&N Pro Series race at Roseville. Partridge had 10 top-five and 13 top 10 finishes in 14 races in the K&N Pro Series West.

“I’m absolutely ecstatic,” Partridge said. “I know we didn’t win the championship, but we ended up on top in the last race.”

Partridge had to battle rain before the race and a surging Chris Eggleston at the end of the race. Rain washed out qualifying, put Gilliland on the pole and Partridge on the front row with him.

“It was tough with the rain, sliding around,” Partridge said. “I was the one out front, so I was the one finding all the water first. It was a lot of run though. Me and Todd had a couple of real good battles, got into each other a couple of times.”

Partridge led the first 151 laps of the race. A caution on lap 147, the seventh of the race, set up a green-white-checkered finish. Eggleston, who took the lead briefly on lap 152 after the final restart, battled Partridge to the checkered flag.

“We had a green-white-checkered finish, of course, doesn’t matter how many laps it is,” Partridge said. "It always boils down to a green-white-checkered finish.”

Eggleston held on for second place. Bill McAnally Racing teammate Julia Landauer was third. Noah Gragson was fourth and Nicole Behar was fifth.

Even though Partridge fell short of winning the K&N Pro Series West championship, he wanted to end the season on a high note. He hinted that this might be the last season for his Sunrise Ford Racing team in the K&N Pro Series West.

“I knew we had a dominant car and trust me, I was hungry for this one,” Partridge said. “We’re not going down without a fight. I want to go out on top. This is probably our last year in this series. I just wanted to go out with a bang.”

Gilliland not only won the K&N Pro Series West championship, he is also the Sunoco Rookie of the Year.

We had an amazing season. To have six wins out of 14 races in my rookie season is amazing, better than anything we ever expected. Definitely couldn’t be happier with the night.

2016 Sierra and Silverado Air Intake Offers Estimated 7.5 Horsepower Boost

The K&N 77-3090KTK Air Intake System for 2016 Silverado and Sierra.

The K&N 77-3090KTK air intake system is designed for 2016 Silverado and Sierra HD pickup trucks

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD comes in three body styles –- Double Cab, Crew Cab, and Regular Cab. Refreshed in 2015, this model has some new features including a digital steering assist system that modifies the amount of power assist in different driving situations. Moreover, there is now a new 7-inch IntelliLink touchscreen infotainment options that includes many of the same features in last year’s system with an 8-inch display. Both systems feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality to allow full integration of a smartphone.

A 6.0-liter V8 is the base engine for this model and delivers 360 horsepower and 380 lb/ft of torque. A more powerful 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 that supplies 397-horsepower and 765-lb-ft of torque is available as an option. A 6-speed automatic transmission is mated to either engine. However, a sturdier Allison 1000 transmission is integrated with the turbodiesel engine.

A bi-fuel option is available on the 6.0-liter engine that permits you to run the truck on gasoline or compressed natural gas. However, the natural gas power cuts horsepower down to 301 and torque to 333-lb-ft.

Rear-wheel drive is standard, but a four-wheel drive setup is available. The truck can haul up to 7,153 pounds and tow up to 23,200 pounds if properly equipped. There is some difference to last year’s model, but the new ratings are a result of new SAE standards.

As was the case with the Silverado, the 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 HD experienced a refresh in 2015. The same 6.0-liter V8 that powers the standard 2016 Silverado also drives the Sierra. There is also a 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 available as an option.

As mentioned, the K&N 77-3090KTK 77-series high-flow performance air intake system is designed for both the Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD as well as the GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 HD.

The K&N 77-3090KTK Air Intake System

The K&N 77-3090KTK air intake system looks great installed in place of the factory air box

The intake system includes a replacement air filter that features a multilayered cotton gauze media that has been specially treated with a special grade of filter oil so that it can capture and hold particles. The filter is washable and will last for up to 100,000 miles depending on driving conditions before cleansing is required.

K&N also offers an air filter cleaning kit that is specially formulated to clean the filter so it can be reused. In fact, if the filter is properly cleaned every 100,000 miles, it could last for as long as you own the truck. K&N backs the filter and intake system with a Million Mile Limited Warranty. The document promises that the filter will last for up to 10 years or 1,000,000 million miles before needing replacement.

The intake system also includes a free-flow, mandrel-bent aluminum tube that is designed and engineered to replace the factory air filter and air intake housing and correct airflow restriction due to the design of the factory system. Greater airflow assures that the engine gets more air. That translates to more power and acceleration through out the engine’s RPM range. In fact, the K&N 77-3090KTK intake offers and estimated 7.58 horsepower boost. The intake tube features a black powder-coated finish so that it will last and will look good. Moreover, the tube accommodates the factory mass air sensor and crank case vent hose. There is also a heat shield that installs into the original air box space to assure that hot air from the engine compartment does not enter the intake.

The K&N 77-3090KTK air intake system can be installed in about 90 minutes using the existing factory mounting points and common hand tools.

The K&N 77-3090KTK high-flow performance air intake system is designed to fit the following vehicles:

2016 GMC SIERRA 3500 HD 6.0L V8 Fuel Injection - All Models
2016 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD 6.0L V8 Fuel Injection - All Models
