We have been involved with K&N in one way or another for years,” said Shelly McNaul, Route 66 Director of Operations. “K&N supports our events and our growth. K&N has always paid attention to the road. It is a natural fit. The Inland car culture is very strong and Route 66 puts it on display in full force.”

Chief executive officer Steve Rogers received the award on the weekend of the 18th annual Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous at a special Cruisin’ Hall of Fame Ceremony in San Bernardino, California.

Question: What does it mean for K&N to be one of four inductees into the Crusin’ Hall of Fame?
Rogers: “Beyond being just a product for sale, it means the cotton air filter we invented became a major part of the car culture in America because our filters look great and increase horsepower. Now, K&N has been recognized in the Cruisin’ Hall of Fame alongside such names as Hot Rod Magazine, NHRA and the Beach Boys!”

Question: When you received the award of K&N, what was going through your mind?
Rogers: “How fortunate I was to represent the legacy of creative people who made K&N what it is today and after reviewing the names of past inductees, how honored K&N was to be included in such a famous group. I was also thrilled to be introduced by Jack Brown of Stater Bros. Not only is Jack an icon of the Inland Empire, he is personal friend of my Dad’s and Stater Bros. is the title sponsor of the event.”

Question: How does the hot rod culture pertain to K&N?
Rogers: “There were 1700 cars at this event and as I walked around, I saw that vast majority of show cars had a large visible K&N air filter on the top of their engine. People clearly feel that the “look” of a K&N air filter fits right in alongside all the chrome, polish and hard work their car represents.”

Question: How can K&N benefit and give back to the nostalgic atmosphere of Route 66?
Rogers: “We benefit through our association and because these car enthusiasts are our core customers and always have been. They tell everyone else about the quality of our products and why they should buy a washable K&N replacement air filter for their car. The way we try to give back is to participate as a vendor and a sponsor for events all over the country like the Route 66 Rendezvous. A car show, no matter where located is a place we can call home.”

Question: With the experience of semi-profession racers within the company, and the popularity of restoration of hot rods, how do K&N products fit into the overall ambience of Route 66?
Rogers: “Beauty and power, it doesn’t get any better than that. K&N was often the first order of any performance upgrade because our filters could improve horsepower and torque. Next people began to like the way they look so now you see them proudly displayed on show vehicles as for their esthetic appeal and that’s the greatest compliment we’ve every received!”

Crump finished second at this event last year, and wants to hit top form as the season draws to a close. A win for the double World Champion would be a huge confidence boost in preparation of the 100th Grand Prix in Germany on October 13th. There is $100,000.00 prize purse in US dollars at stake in Germany.

“Mathematically I cannot be World Champion this year,” said the 32-year-old Queenslander. “I have accepted that and already plans are in place for next year’s championship. Despite the technical problems we had this year, I never worried about K&N products. Our K&N Filters kept the dirt out of our engines. Right now, my focus is on coming out with all guns blazing.”

After 8 rounds Crump is in third place in Grand Prix point standings. “I need to win races, win the Grand Prix and then go to the final round in Germany full of confidence. My intention is to bring $100,000.00 home with me. There is no mistake, I will be after the loot.”

“It was our worst finish ever,” said Lovell. “I cried on my wife’s shoulder the whole way home from Texas.” Lovell’s was thrown off the line when his stinger dug into a rock. They rolled and had cooling, electrical and hydraulic issues.

“The course design also challenged our dated suspension geometry,” said Lovell. “We are pursuing a new Ranger with added vigor. It will be built to the edge of the rules with the best parts available.”

With only a few events left as the season winds down, Team Lovell plans to spend more time practicing to ensure they will be on top of their game next season.

“It wasn’t all bad,” said Lovell. “We entertained the crowd with our antics on the course. I shot off a drop, avoided a roll and then rolled on the other side just passing the finish gates.”

Out of 28 rock crawling competitions Team Lovell has made the podium 26 times. “This race stings, but our record is good and our K&N products didn’t give us any trouble. I can always count on K&N Filters to keep the debris out of our engines,” said Lovell. “There is also a slight taper to give me the clearance I need in this king of competition.”

Next event for Brad Lovell will be at the XRRA Finals in Colorado Springs on September 29.

Donny Schatz is on the Hunt for the 2007 World of Outlaws Championship Title

There are less than 20 races remaining in the 2007 World of Outlaws (WoO) season and Donny Schatz said he will continue to be strong to the finish.

The North Dakota racer is the current points leader as he chases his second World of Outlaws title. On Friday night, September 14th, he raced his Global ParkerStore J&J with K&N Engineering Products to his second consecutive win at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kansas. The previous Wednesday Schatz won at the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa.

“You’ve got to take every one you can get,” said Schatz, after his 16th WoO win of the season. “We got lucky. The car popped out of gear about midway through the race. I was lucky enough to get it back in gear and passed Daryn Pittman for second. Then it was just a matter of seeing if we could get past Tim Shaffer.”

Schatz started the evening by qualifying eighth in the field. He won the second heat race and drew the number four starting position in the Crane Cams Dash. In the eight-lap dash, Schatz finished second to Tim Shaffer earning an outside front row starting position for the 35-lap race.

“I haven’t had a car jump out of gear for several years,” said Schatz. “The cables kind of pull out and lock. I could feel it earlier in the night, but you never expect it will bite you. We were bouncing through a few holes and that started to jar it. It popped out, but I got it back in sync.”

On the restart, Schatz chased Shaffer back into traffic. When Shaffer made a high move trying to lap a car, Schatz seized the moment on lap 27 and led the rest of the way for his 67th career WoO A-Feature.

“It’s hard to pass people in open track,” said Schatz. “I don’t think anyone has that good of a race car, especially with a full load of fuel. We need to hit lapped traffic and force him to make a mistake. All of the yellow were kind of hurting him and kind of hurting us. He made a mistake in lapped traffic and I was there to capitalize on it. I’ve said it before, that when you are running second, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

The consecutive wins follow the annual God Rush Tour. It marks the fifth time in the last six years that Schatz has multiple wins following the west coast swing. “We are fortunate to work with such great product sponsors like K&N Filters,” said Schatz. “Without K&N we wouldn’t be here.” Last season, Schatz won five races following the Gold Cup through the season finale. Schatz is aiming for at least that many wins this year.

“We’re still shooting for 20 and maybe more,” said Schatz, who won a career high of 19 last year. “We have a few races left and we just have to make sure to capitalize on as many as we can. Every year we try and do better. We want to win another championship.”

Schatz and the ParkerStore Team hope to make it three straight on Sunday night at Charter Raceway Park.
