Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop pushed the envelope at the Bonneville Salt Flats during
Speed Week. Its Cadillac XLR set a record of 222 mph and is now officially “The
World’s Fastest Cadillac.”

“This is a huge accomplishment for a new car that has just been
completed,” said Alan Johnson, of Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop in Gadsden, Alabama.
“I’m saying it was completed only a few days before Speed Week. After five
months of working on it we went there with an unproven vehicle.”

The World’s Fastest Cadillac was equipped with K&N Air Filters. “K&N has the
biggest variety of sizes for filters,” said Johnson. “K&N always has something
to fit anything we’re working with. K&N also protects the engines in all kinds
of harsh environments.”
The project began in March and went to Bonneville without any testing and
tuning. “The fact that we set that kind of record is an achievement in itself,”
said Johnson. “Gramie Bartles drove the XLR to take the record. He built the
chassis and worked closely with us on the build of this project to make sure it
followed all the rules. We are really proud of all the hard work and extra
effort that made this project happen.”
The Cadillac XLR will be back at Bonneville in October for the World Finals.
“We’re going to try and pick up the speed by 20 mph,” said Johnson. “The car is
a lot heavier than it appears to be, the more down force you have the better the
traction is.”
Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop is currently working on 19 street rods and street
machines. “We’ve always used K&N Products,” said Johnson. “Everything we work on
gets K&N Filters. You can’t beat the quality.”

The first head-to-head UROC Rockcross Rock Race went down in Salt Lake City and
Lovell Racing was on the program to see what is was all about.
Round One of UROC Rockcross
Team Lovell qualifying at UROC Rockcross
“I like to compare rock crawling to fencing and XRRA to boxing,” said
Brand Lovell. “UROC Rockcross is like a knife fight in Tijuana.” Teams were
nervous and excited as time trials got underway to determine start positions.
Brad Lovell and co-driver Mike Foster qualified in 4th place.
Team Stumph drove over Team Lovell at UROC
Finals at UROC Rockcross
Team Lovell made it to the first heat of the first Rockcross. “My skin was
crawling and I wanted nothing more than to have that green flag drop,” said
Lovell. “Nobody knew how this was going to work out. We took off and all the
excitement turned into sheer focus on beating the two trucks next to me.
Luckily, we got the hole-shot and hit the rock first. From there we never looked
back and got a ticket to the semi-finals.”
Team Lovell was pitted against Team Stumph and Team Schiesow in the next race.
“These guys have good cars and are good drivers,” said Lovell. “We didn’t have
lane choice and barely made it to the rock first. Stumph hit us and drove over
our hood onto the rock. We squared in behind him and made a quick pass on the
backstretch. He was bumping us in the fast turn but lost control. We had clear
sailing for the next two laps and Stumph and Schiesow battled it out for the rest
of the race.”
Lovell made it to the finals and had a pretty even start with his competition
from the gate. Team Maybe made it over the rock first and Lovell was on his
tail. “This guy was fast and we had a good race going. We would get right on him
in the rock but there was no room to pass. We came out of the rock and I was on
two wheels. I had to lift to get the inside tires down so I didn’t roll and
Maybe pushed ahead. We came within inches of rolling of the next climb and I was
forced to back up.”
Lovell plunged over the rock and into the dust. He did not see a hairpin turn
and ended the race upside down with a face full of dust. Team Lovell walked away
with 2nd place.
“I have to hand it to Jimmy Maybe for some extremely fast heads up racing,” said
Lovell. “We had the ride of our lives.” Team Lovell uses K&N Engineering
products. “There is a lot of silt and fine dust on these courses,” said Lovell.
“K&N Filters keep the debris out of our engines and our sensors do not clog up.
There is also a slight taper to give me the clearance and flexibility I need in
this kind of competition.”
The FABTECH Ford Ranger is in the shop for repairs. Brad and Roger Lovell will
team up for the WE-Rock US Finals in Houston, Texas on September 15 and 16.

The 2008 entry level Mini One is equipped with a 1.4 liter engine based on a
larger motor and benefits from variable valve control. Other options for drivers
include the Mini Cooper which is equipped with a 1.6 liter engine. Both models
are a decent ride with one of the best gearboxes on the market.
Air Induction for Mini One and Mini Cooper
K&N has developed a 57i Air Induction Kit (57-0665) for
the 2007 and 2008 Mini One and Mini Cooper. See applications list below.
Simply remove the complete stock air box and intake hose and replace them with the
K&N silicone hose and plastic molded intake pipe.
The new chrome top K&N Air Filter fits onto the new intake pipe and is supported
by a bracket assembly. A new cold air hose, specifically designed for these
applications, delivers cool outside air directly to the K&N Air Filter.
Zip ties are provided to secure the cold air hose in position.
It takes 90 minutes or less to install this kit using simple hand tools.
The Hyundai Tucson is a nicely proportioned compact SUV with clean lines, front
and rear short overhangs and a V6 engine. The Santa Fe was Hyundai's first
utility vehicle and in 2007 it is a little larger than the Tucson.
Air Filter for Hyundai Santa Fe and Tucson
K&N Engineering designed a lifetime replacement air filter (33-2378)
for the 2007 and 2008 Hyundai Tucson and 2007 and 2008 Santa Fe. See applications list below.
There is a great deal of engineering behind every K&N Filter. Each filter is
custom designed to fit in the factory air box and requires no modifications. An
economical K&N Air Filter lasts up to 50,000 miles before cleaning is required
depending on driving conditions. Our Air Filters are also environmentally
friendly because they never need to be thrown out and replaced.
K&N Air Filters are made using layers of cotton gauze sandwiched between two
epoxy-coated aluminum wire screens. The cotton is treated with a specially
formulated grade of oil causing tackiness throughout the cottons' microscopic
strands. The nature of the cotton allows high airflow, and when
combined with the tackiness of the oil it creates a powerful filtering media that
provides excellent engine protection.
Designed to increase horsepower and acceleration it will not void a vehicle
warranty. K&N replacement air filters are backed by our original Million Mile
Limited Warranty and will be the last air filter your vehicle will ever need.

Air Induction for Mitsubishi Colt
K&N has developed a 57i Air Induction System (57-0649)
for the 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Mitsubishi Colt 1.5 liter 16 valve turbo. This Colt model is found mostly in Europe. The Induction Kit was
