Travis Kvapil went to Martinsville Speedway in the No 6. K&N Engineering Ford
F-150 for his 100th Craftsman Truck Series race at one of his favorite tracks.

In his best qualifying effort of the 2007 season, Kvapil started second.
However, he was unable to keep his track position. He started at the outside and
it was a difficult place to be at the drop of the green flag. Kvapil dropped
back into 4th position before he was able to get to the inside of the track.

In the early part of the race, Kvapil told the K&N crew his truck was a little
tight. Crew chief Mike Beam planned a one-stop strategy around lap 60 and Kvapil
adjusted his line to accommodate the problem. At lap 73 the caution flag flew
for a wreck and Kvapil hit pit road for tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment.
Kvapil restarted in eighth position but his F-150 continued to have problems. At
lap 191, the K&N Ford went back to pit row for more adjustments. Kvapil
restarted in the 15th position with 50 or so laps remaining. He was unable to
regain his position and took a 14th place finish.
“We fought tight all day,” said Kvapil. “We pitted that second time because we
had nothing to lose. It was a gamble and it didn’t pay off but we had to try
something. When we went back out to the track we couldn’t get position. We hoped
that we’d be a contender at the end, but we got ourselves in traffic and we
couldn’t do anything to get back to the front. We’re disappointed with our
finish.”
Kvapil and the No.6 K&N Engineering Team are ninth in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck
Series point standing, 216 points out of the lead.
“Travis will be running the K&N Filters No. 6 Truck at Kansas Speedway on April
28,” said Rory Connellan of Roush Racing. “It will be good to be back on a track
that is 1 ½ miles. A good run there can move us up a couple of spots. It’s still
early enough in the season to turn around. We’re not out of this series by any
means.”

K&N Engineering is proud to have completed International Commission of Karting - Federal International Automobile (CIK-FIA) homologation of
RK-1000, a K&N Airbox designed for Karts. The CIK-FIA evaluated our product through a series of tests and deemed it acceptable for
racing.
Air Box Designed for Karts
The CIK-FIA official stamp and seal is on the air box molding. The K&N Airbox is now accepted world wide and officially approved by
the CIK-FIA for competition.
"RK-1000 is made to withstand the rigors and harsh environments of track
competition," said K&N Air Filter Product Manager, Joost Adriaans. "There is
also a M6 nut molded in the top of the K&N Airbox for mounting purposes. This
saves time in competition."
The K&N Airbox comes with two intake restrictors with a 23 mm inside diameter.
These restrictors are also sold separately. Restrictors are packaged as a pair
and are also available in the 29 mm inside diameter size. Part
85-2000 has a 29 mm inside diameter and
85-2001 has a 23 mm inside
diameter. "Intake restrictors are there for two purposes, to create smooth air
flow into the K&N Airbox and to decrease sound to meet noise restriction
requirements at many tracks," said Adriaans. "The class you are
racing in determines the set of intake restrictors needed."
Two sizes of K&N Universal Air Filters (RU-5005) and (RU-5006) are also
available. "Our K&N Filters lock into the K&N Airbox for high air flow
and to reduce any turbulence," said Adriaans. "The whole assembly is designed to
clamp on to the carburetor."
K&N has also signed on as a contingency sponsor of the Snap-on Stars of Karting
presented by the IRL. This
program provides a chance for racers to go from Karts
to race cars by developing driver skills at the grassroots level.
"It took a lot of hard work to get this product sanctioned by the CIK-FIA," said
Adriaans. "K&N wanted this because we wanted racers in the Stars of Karting and
all over the world to be able to use this product in official competitions."

Jeff Arend went to the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals in the special edition K&N
Filters Car looking for a win at Houston, Texas.

The rain was so bad on Saturday, teams and fans spent almost 20 consecutive
hours at Houston Raceway Park without a single car making its way onto the
track,” said CSK Team Manager Bob Wilber. “The thick clouds, heavy rains,
massive thunder and lightning show kept us from seeing the sunrise, and the wet
stuff kept the cars off the track. The dew point was so high it was impossible
to keep anything dry.”
It was so wet the NHRA called it a day and the planned pair of afternoon
qualifying runs was cancelled. The fields were set based on Friday’s qualifying
as it stood and locked Arend into the 8th spot.
On Sunday the rain went away around 2 p.m. and the steam began to rise from the
Houston pavement as the first pair of Top Fuel dragsters took the track. Arend
sat at the end of the Funny Car line, where he would face No.9 qualifier Bob
Gilbertson as the last pair in round one.
In the world of razor-thin losses, Arend left the line starting well, with a
solid .084 reaction time. Bob Gilbertson had a great .060 on the board and the
race was on. Both cars tore down the track in a rare show of side-by-side racing
and it was too close to call, until the win light went on in Gilbertson’s lane.
Arend clocked in with a 4.908 while Gilberston recorded a 4.907.
“I didn’t cut a bad light, by any means,” said Arend. “But he is very quick at
the line, and he got on me by just a little. The K&N car ran well, we didn’t
bobble or smoke the tires and a lot of people were having problems out there. To
beat him, I would have needed something like an .058 light, which is something I
can do but that’s a little quicker than what I’d call normal. I don’t go up
there trying to slay the tree, because that takes you out of your routine and
you can end up beating yourself up doing that.”
It was “that close” but it went the other way, said Wilber.
Donny Schatz and the ParkerStore Team took sixth place on Saturday night at
Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia. The defending World of Outlaws champion is
setting a strong early season pace for the 2007 campaign.

“Sixth place was not the result we wanted,” said Schatz. “We are working on
getting things as best as we can. The tough part is that we’re only racing once
a week right now. You put everything out and you can spend the next six days
thinking about it. We’re not where we need to be at the moment, but we’ve been
racing up front trying to get better.”
Hardee’s Southbound Showdown began well enough for Schatz. He turned the
quickest lap in time trials to earn his first FastTime Award of the season. The
Fargo, North Dakota racer then earned a spot in the dash event and began the
30-lap feature in ninth place.
He moved up to sixth place, but spent the remaining laps of the feature trying
to pass Steve Kinser. The racing groove made passing difficult and Schatz waited
for Kinser to make a mistake. The opportunity never presented itself and Schatz
finished sixth.
The finish along with Joey Saldana’s victory gave Saldana a two-point lead in
the World of Outlaws Series over Schatz.
“We’re excited to have a couple of races next weekend,” said Schatz. “We’re
going to some tracks where we’ve had success in the past and hope to be right
there each night. We’ve won three races so far, and if we could repeat what we
did last year we’d all be happy.”
Schatz and the ParkerStore Team use K&N Engineering products. “The K&N Airbox
worked flawlessly,” he said. “I have to thank all the folks at K&N for their
dedication to building a superior product.”
Schatz returns to action next weekend at Paducah, Kentucky on Friday and the
I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Missouri on Saturday.
